Project Homecoming completes 100th House!

On Friday, March 5th, Project Homecoming will celebrate the completion of construction on its 100th house, owned by Mr. Wesley Hall (1425 Gordon St, Lower 9th Ward). This celebration will take place at Mr. Hall’s home at 3:00pm.

Mr. Wesley Hall

"This is a wonderful milestone that could not have been accomplished without the help of partner organizations and over 7,500 volunteers," declares Jean Marie Peacock, Executive Director of Project Homecoming.

The celebration will place special emphasis on the collaboration between various organizations, which made it possible for Mr. Hall to return home. Project Homecoming, funded by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, managed the construction work; the Lower Ninth Ward's NENA worked closely with Mr. Hall to identify his specific needs; the Salvation Army donated $15k to fund building materials, and their Envirenew Program donated an additional $5k and installation expertise toward sustainable upgrades; Louisiana Green Corps provided local youth workers to weatherize the house through their green jobs training program; and FEMA provided temporary housing for Mr. Hall during his rebuild. From the use of bamboo flooring to soy-based spray foam insulation, various "green" building practices ensure that Mr. Hall will have a safe, worry-free house that he can afford.

The celebration will include a blessing of Mr. Hall’s home during which gifts and notes sent by volunteers who worked on the house will be presented to Mr. Hall.

"This dedication will be an important opportunity to celebrate the fruits of our labor, but we are reminded of how much more there is to be done," said Jean Marie Peacock. "Project Homecoming is also raising funds to continue our work, and rebuild our next 100 houses."

To help Project Homecoming rebuild the next 100 homes, please send a check, payable to the Presbytery of South Louisiana with "Project Homecoming" in the memo, to: 3700 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70122.

Consider emailing a note for Mr. Wesley Hall, to be read at the dedication.
