THOSE WHO GRIEVE
Rev. Geofrey Nyaga (Umoja) & family - as they mourn the death of Nancy’s brother, Paul Mbiu Kamau in mid-June, even as they grieve the death of Nancy’s mother on May 12, 2019. Prayers for Nancy as she has travelled back to Kenya twice for funerals.
Rev. Lynn Longfield (HR) & family - as they mourn the death of Lynn’s mother, Lois (93), on May 11, 2019. Prayers for the family as they gather to celebrate her life on June 15.
Rev. Christine Long & family - as they grieve the death of Christine’s father-in-law, John Long on March 3, 2019. Prayers especially for Christine’s husband, James, during this time.
Rev. Steve Klump (HR) & family - as Steve’s daughter & son-in-law, Victoria and Rob Clark, welcome baby #2, Adalaide Ruth, on July 9.
Rev. Matt Robbins-Ghormley & family (Trinity, Tacoma) - as Matt, Amber, big brother, Sam and big sister, Madeleine, welcomed Lydia Anja Grace Robbins-Ghormley on April 11.
Carol Reeve-Keller (surviving spouse of Rev. Don Keller) - who has moved into an adult family home in Puyallup (119 21st Ave SW, Puyallup WA 98371).
Rev Mark Dowdy (HR) - who recently has been diagnosed with prostate cancer which is confined to the prostate and will have radiation treatment in the next few months. Prayers for Mark and his wife, Cheryl, in this time.
Jeani Shofner (Commissioned Pastor, First Pres. Hoquiam/Saron Lutheran) - as Jeani lives with cancer that has returned after receiving treatment for ovarian cancer. Prayers for Jeani, her husband, Ed, and their church community during this time.
Rev. Jenny Rake-Marona (HR) - as her husband, Mark, is being treated for both a long term heart condition and a lymphoma diagnosis. Updates on his progress can be found here.
CONGREGATIONS & PASTORS
Vital Congregations Initiative - as the presbytery actively prepares for two years of engagement with the Vital Congregations process. The following Facilitators have been hired to shepherd this engagement: Rev. Dr. David Kegley (Member-at-large), Deacon Dorothy Culliton (Westminster, Olympia), and Rev. Crawford Brubaker (Member-at-large). The following churches will be participating:
Chapel by the Sea, Pacific Beach (Rev. Dr. Linda Flately)
Lakewood (Rev. Barlow Buescher)
Longview (Revs. Dexter & Liz Kearny)
Mission Woods, Milton (Rev. John Murphy)
Skyline, Tacoma (Rev. Robyn Hogue)
Westminster, Chehalis (Rev. Ed Wegele)
Trinity-Tacoma - as the congregation officially left their building to begin the seismic-retrofit and renovation process. They will be worshipping across the street at Mt. Tahoma Seventh Day Adventist church for the next year.
Umoja Presbyterian - as we celebrate with this primarily-Kenyan immigrant faith community that worships at the Westminster building in east Tacoma. The Presbytery officially organized them as a congregation at its May 2018 Meeting!
Hagar’s Community Church - the presbytery welcomed Rev. Lane B. Brubaker as the Organizing Pastor in October 2018! Please pray for the women who live at the WCCW, the staff and for Pastor Lane as they get to know one another.
The following pastor(s) on sabbatical:
Rev. Matt Robbins-Ghormley (Trinity, Tacoma) - as Matt and family have a sabbatical season, and Rev. Rod Nash leads the congregation in his absence over the summer months.
The following churches in Pastoral Transition:
Westminster-Olympia: as they welcomed their new pastor, Rev. Therin Fenner on June 2. Please join the presbytery as it installs Therin as the pastor on July 14, 2019 (2pm).
Shepherd of the Hill-Puyallup: as they continue to partner with Rev. Heather James as their Transitional Pastor, and begin the PNC process.
Immanuel-Tacoma: as they partner with Rev. Eyde Mabanglo as their Transitional Pastor, and begin to form a PNC.
Harrison Square-Centralia: as they celebrated the ordination of Mark McHugh on March 10 (5pm) as a Minister of Word and Sacrament. He joins Rev. Ralph Carr in serving HSPC as Temporary Co-Pastors.
The members of the Administrative Commission for Westminster Tacoma - as they seek to faithfully respond to the commission given to them by the Presbytery in March 2017, a part of which is to determine what God might be calling forth in that neighborhood regarding future uses of the building.
