Watch
the new Hurricane Ike video
Most
people have forgotten about Hurricane Ike. It was that storm that came ashore
during the 2008 elections, missed New Orleans and was downgraded to a
category 2. For the most part, news coverage and the public moved on to other
things. But those whose homes were destroyed by Ike - the third most
destructive hurricane to ever strike the United States - should not to be
forgotten.
A new 5-minute video is available on the web and will soon be
available to order; the DVD will help refocus attention to the great need for
volunteers and donations. Watch the video.

 California Wildfires
PDA has been in contact with presbyteries in the areas affected by the
wildfires in the Southern California (San Gabriel, Riverside, and San
Fernando). We will continue to closely monitor the situation to see if any
needs for our assistance arise.

Mexico and Indonesia
PDA is monitoring the earthquake that struck Indonesia and Hurricane Jimena,
which struck Mexico, and that may cause flooding on the Baja California
Peninsula. We have been in contact with our partners in these regions about
possible needs and how PDA can be of assistance. PDA will respond based on
the request of our local partners.

Get Swine Flu Preparation
PDA continues to monitor and stay informed about preparation for a potential
H1NI (Swine Flu) outbreak.
Visit the PDA Web site for general facts on H1N1, prevention
and preparedness, and other resources.

Foods
Resource Bank
As
many communities plan their fall festivals, PDA asks congregations to
consider adding a Foods Resource Bank (FRB) harvest celebration to next
year's schedule of fall festival activities. Plant crops in the spring,
harvest in the fall, and make a difference year-round for an international
community in need.
FRB recently celebrated ten years of providing a Christian
response to world hunger. Last year, 210 U.S. growing projects supported 58
food security programs in 32 countries.
Visit the PDA Web site to see how you can become involved in
the ministry.

Hurricane Katrina: Four Years Later
In acknowledgement of four years following the landfall of Hurricane Katrina,
we give thanks to God for the healing that has happened in many affected
communities. We also remember that there is much more to rebuild, and we say
thank you to the tens of thousands who have been the physical presence and
witness to Christ's healing love for families impacted by the disaster.
Your support, whether through donations, volunteerism, prayer or
partnership, has energized the work of helping the most vulnerable in the
Gulf Coast area.
With your help, over the past four years, PDA has helped bring
families home. We have gutted and/or repaired 3,603 homes and have rebuilt
702 homes for those who lost everything. More than 41,000 volunteers have
come from places near and far to help in this effort, and have given
approximately 2 million hours of service.
PDA has sponsored Presbyterian mission trips for youth through
hosting special summer work opportunities, providing a way for youth teams to
be involved in the ministry of disaster recovery in the Gulf Coast.
PDA continues to support long-term recovery in the region.
Repair and rebuilding efforts have been undertaken in coordination with
community and faith-based recovery groups in the affected areas as a ministry
of presence to those still recovering.
Please continue to be an advocate for hurricane-affected
families. Volunteers are still needed in the recovery efforts.
