Coming Home

This ceremony marks the culmination of what has been a long road to recovery for the Fords.  Less than one year before Hurricane Katrina hit, Kim and Mark purchased a small home in the Holy Cross neighborhood, and officially became Empty Nesters!  If you know the Fords, it will come as no surprise that they were extremely excited about the prospect of having a home where they could host friends, and neighbors on a regular basis.  Unfortunately God had other plans.

Hurricane Katrina brought over five feet of water into the Fords’ new home, and devastated them both.  But they were determined not to let it get the best of them.  So, as soon as they could get back into their neighborhood, they had their house gutted, and moved into a small apartment with their daughter, just outside of the city.  Unfortunately, Kim and Mark soon realized that because they were underinsured, they could not afford hiring a contractor to rebuild their home.  Thus despite their best efforts , they were unable to return home.

That was when God turned things around.  About a year ago, Kim was at Vaughn’s lounge, enjoying local trumpet player, Kermit Ruffins’, regular Thursday night set.  As she was making her way through the bar, inevitably talking to every  person she bumped into, Kim started up a conversation with Andy Greenhow, a then Construction Assistant for Project Homecoming.  As they got deeper into conversation Andy began talking about the mission of Project Homecoming, and how she and her husband would be perfect candidates for the program.  And they were.

Rebuilding the home of Kim and Mark Ford, has truly been a blessing for Project Homecoming.  Both Kim and Mark are incredible people, huge assets to their community, and a whole lot of fun.  All are welcome, so please come and celebrate with us!
